A Cake in Honor of the Nation’s Creepy Clowns

Creepy Clown Cake

I hope I don’t lose followers because of this, but it is NEWS people! Creepy clowns are plaguing the nation. This is quite possibly the most absurd bit of news I’ve ever heard (although let’s be real, nothing can compete with this election.)

If you haven’t heard yet, this all began in Greenville, North Carolina. Police received reports of creepy clowns supposedly standing at the edge of the woods, attempting to lure children in. Whether or not these reports were truthful, we have no way of knowing. However, the important part is these police reports made national news. That national news presumably inspired others across the country to dress up as clowns. Who are you people?!

Stranger Things Chocolate Pudding Eggo Cupcakes

Stranger Things Cupcakes

I, like the rest of America, fell deep into the Upside Down of binge-watching Stranger Things. It starts innocently enough by noticing a new show pop up on Netflix. Then suddenly, you haven’t seen sunlight in two days and you’re gently weeping watching the 7th episode for the third time. That happened to everyone, right? Not just me?

Stranger Things boasts a perfect blend of thrilling plot, adorable stars, and 1980s nostalgia-inducing soundtrack and visuals. Although only eight episodes, the series guarantees a whirlwind of emotions and actions that could last a lifetime. The series undoubtedly worked its way into all of our hearts, (and Halloween plans- I am already planning out my Eleven costume). While most of us have watched the series three times over by now, here are some facts you may not know about this summer’s sci-fi breakout series.

Easy Angry Orchard Cider Cupcakes

Angry Orchard Cider Cupcakes

Name two great things: dessert and alcohol. Any opportunity I have to pair the two, I absolutely take advantage of. I actually first discovered cider while studying abroad my sophomore year of college. As a 19-year-old frolicking London, a city that’s drinking age is 18, I naturally had to “grab a pint” whenever possible.

However, I quickly discovered that a “pint” was quite filling for a small human like me. I also wasn’t used to beer, but hey I could legally drink so I had to try it! Until I discovered a beautiful creation called the half-pint. You mean all this time I could be ordering a drink that wasn’t as big as my face? Shortly after falling in love with the half-pint, I had my first cider. You mean I could’ve been drinking cider this whole time?! My eyes were opened, and for the rest of the trip, I enjoyed my half-pints of cider from pub to pub.

Now I’m 22, and actually, prefer beer over cider. Cider is quite sweet for my new taste as an American of drinking age. That being said, it is undeniably the drink of fall. It’s crisp like the fall air with a nostalgic hint of apples like pie on Thanksgiving. It felt natural to me to pair this beverage with a dessert.  This cupcake is incredibly easy to make and is bound to impress your friends!

Easy Pumpkin Spice Latte Cupcakes

Pumpkin Spice Latte Cupcakes

We’ve all been through it. It’s barely the beginning of September and suddenly murmurs start to fill the air. “PSL” these voices say. Pumpkin Spice Latte. Starbucks created an unstoppable force and they capitalize greatly on it during all the months that can even remotely qualify as autumn. It’s a movement.

So I’m giving into the hype! Pumpkin. Spice. Latte. Cupcakes! In my opinion, these are better than the actual latte, which I am not even the biggest fan of. Don’t get me wrong, I love pumpkin,  love coffee. And yet somehow, the PSL just doesn’t live up to the hype for me. These cupcakes, however, can live up to any amount of hype you want to give them. With a dense, cinnamon-y, pumpkin cake and a fluffy whipped vanilla frosting, they are reminiscent of the famous beverage, but in my opinion better in all the right ways.

What’s even better? This recipe is easy. It modifies a boxed cake mix (no shame, you don’t have to tell anyone,) by substituting out a few ingredients to create the pumpkin and coffee flavors. You could also try making these cupcakes with a box of spice cake mix rather than yellow, and omitting the pumpkin pie spice. That would also be very good. So experiment, have fun with it, and enjoy an edible form of America’s favorite fall beverage!

Coffee Cake

I’ll admit it- coffee cake is not a photogenic dessert. As obsessed as I am with food aesthetic, this one provided a challenge. But you know what made up for it’s lack of beauty? It’s undeniable deliciousness. This cake will be my breakfast for the next week and somehow I don’t feel guilty at all about it. Bake one up and enjoy with a nice cup of coffee for instant happiness! Happy September!

Bundt Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting

With Easter coming up this weekend, carrot cake seemed like my only option for today’s post. But hey, I’m not complaining! This moist, light cake is paired with the most delicious cream cheese frosting to create a perfect balance of flavors. I have found there are two types of people: those who love carrot cake or those who want nothing to do with it. To the second group, I say don’t deny this cake! Eat up the frosting with a spoon and you will be in heaven. This festive dessert comes together quickly and the bundt pan makes it automatically adorable!
