Pirates of the Caribbean Davy Jones Pie

Davey Jones Pie

ianmichelman.com

Everybody’s favorite pirate is back on the big screen with Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales. To celebrate, I decided to make an octo-PIE. For the PIE-rates. Nobody stop me!

Now, I know Davy Jones isn’t in the new movie. I know he died a long time ago. (I don’t feel bad about that spoiler because if you haven’t watched the movies by now, what are you doing?) He may not be in this movie, but he makes a pretty charming pie. Plus, there’s no way I could properly capture Jack Sparrow’s beauty in pie form. I actually have to wait to see the movie until next week because my friend is out of town and insists I wait for her return so we can go admire Johnny Depp on the big screen together. I digress.

With this dessert, I tried something new. Yes it’s me, in video form. Can you tell I feel awkward on camera? I’m working really hard to kick that feeling so I can start making a lot more videos. Because they are fun!

Bob’s Burgers Macarons

Bob's Burgers Macarons

Through seven burger-slinging seasons and counting, the Belcher family has won over the hearts of viewers everywhere. The lovable family of five finds maintains its popularity with an extremely loyal fanbase. It’s all too easy to route for Bob and Lisa as they struggle to simultaneously run a burger joint and keep up with their three rambunctious kids. The show finds its success not through the absurdity that many animated shows embrace, but rather with the undeniable relatability and hilariousness of a dysfunctional family. If you’ve never seen Bob’s Burgers, please go treat yourself to a healthy Netflix binge. Even if you “aren’t that into cartoons,” I guarantee you will crack a smile at Tina’s dance moves- at least once.

Baked Vanilla Donuts

Recently I was given a donut pan, and I was so excited to put it to use! If you don’t have one, they are relatively cheap to purchase (buy one here for $8.99). To start, I decided to just whip up some vanilla donuts, mostly because I wanted to make some brightly colored glaze. I love opening up a donut box that has all different colors and sprinkles! This recipe makes just six donuts, but it can easily be doubled. Plus these donuts are baked, rather than fried. They are still by no means healthy, but it’s definitely better than frying them in oil! Whip these up on a Sunday morning and decorate them with all the rainbow sprinkles you can find!

Perfect Banana Bread

Well, almost all banana bread is perfect. But especially this recipe! I love bananas. I eat them up so quickly after grocery shopping that I rarely end up with overly-ripe ones sitting on the counter. However, by some miracle, this past week I managed to avoid them for a few days until I had some brown, mushy bananas. This normally would be unappetizing, but instead it made me seriously excited to prepare one of my favorite desserts! So if you have some bananas that are just too ripe to eat, whip up this recipe and get ready for your whole house to smell delicious!

Skinny Summer Fruit Tarts

Summer is quickly approaching, and so is swimsuit season! The era of comfort food and over-sized sweaters is behind us, so I decided to take a shot at a lighter, low-cal dessert. I’ve always been hesitant with this. While I personally love eating healthy foods, I know when it comes to dessert, swapping ingredients can seriously compromise flavor. These fruit tarts aren’t quite as indulgent as full-fat ones might be, but they are much more guilt-free! They still taste sweet and refreshing, and you can head straight to the pool after!

Homemade Samoas

To finalize the homemade Girl Scout recipes, it only seems fair to include Samoas. To me, Thin Mints, Tag Alongs, and Samoas are absolutely the top three Girl Scout cookies. I was hesitant to replicate these due to how seemingly complex they are, but they are just so dang delicious I knew I had to overcome that fear. As it turns out- they aren’t that difficult to make! Just stick with me and follow this step-by-step process. You’ll get through it and have delicious cookies as a reward!

Homemade Poptarts

My freshman year of high school I ate a package of Pop-Tarts every single morning on my hour long bus ride. Flash forward to present day, I can’t imagine eating those processed snacks even once a week. So I decided to try my hand at homemade versions, still not very healthy but at least a yummy treat with no preservatives! Once you try these you’ll never even want the store-bought breakfasts again, they are so good!

Homemade Tag-Alongs (Peanut Butter Patties)

Introducing my second favorite girl scout cookie: Tag-Alongs! Or Peanut Butter Patties! Whatever you decide to call them, they taste amazing either way. Peanut butter and chocolate.. what could go wrong here?
I am always intimidated by any recipe that involves hand dipping many small treats in chocolate, but I think I might just be getting better at it. Because this recipe went right along and did not take me very long at all. That’s right, watch out Girl Scouts! I’m catching up!

Homemade Circus Cookies

Keeping with these month’s theme, here is the obligatory “Do you remember these?!?!”
But really, do you?? They are so tasty, and addicting, and it’s very easy to eat far too many of them. I have not had them in many years, so I was exciting to do a homemade recreation.
Now, I didn’t have any animal cookie cutters. I could have easily invested in some, they can be found here on Amazon if you are interested in baking up some A+ replicas. As for me, I had a set of tiny cookie cutters of different shapes, and as a poor college student I figured they would more than suffice. The hearts and stars were just as delicious to eat!

Homemade Thin Mints

I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again. I love mint chocolate! And I’ll go ahead and say this too: everybody loves Girl Scout cookies. So naturally, as a human who loves mint chocolate, I believe Thin Mints are the best cookies in existence. Now I know there are fancy ways to order Girl Scout cookies online now, but before that we had to wait until we happened upon a little table set up outside the grocery store. The solution? Make some yourself! Yes it takes longer, but it feels so much more rewarding to know you made them. Maybe that’s just me. Maybe I’m compensating for the fact that I was never a girl scout… Oh well, these cookies are delicious!
